Main structure – Walls, Roof, Floor and Insulation
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating polyurethane foam core sandwiched between two structural oriented strand board (OSB) panels.
The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient, cost effective and offers superior insulation performance versus traditional timber framed buildings because there is a significant reduction in “cold-bridging”.
The insulation performance of the SIPs panels is close to that required to meet building regulations for new build homes. U-Values of 0.27-0.3 W/m2 are achieved by the SIPs panels before the additional layers are added.
Floor
The floor construction consists of a 100mm SIPs panel as the base structure providing a strong and thermal efficient foundation.
As standard we offer a high quality 12mm laminate flooring in a choice of colours which is laid upon a layer of underlay. Other flooring materials are also available including engineered wood, real wood, carpet and rubber flooring for gym rooms.
Roof
The roof is fitted with a single EPDM membrane. This is a single ply roofing membrane that offers excellent durability and has a life expectancy of 50 years. It is an inert material with limited environmental impact, offering unmatched resistance to ozone, UV radiation and high or low temperatures.
7 Layer Walls
Our 7 layer wall systems are ideal for creating a comfortable space suitable for all round use. The layers (plus 2 air gaps) are:
- Interior finish, typically melamine faced board with a soft-white sheen
- Air gap (to enable us to hide electrical wiring)
- Vapour membrane
- 3 layer SIPs panels including 72 mm of foam insulation
- Breather membrance that allows 1 way escape of moisture and prevents ingress
- Air gap
- External cladding
