Gym and storeroom, Harrow
About this design
The customer asked us to create a custom designed gym with a few special requirements. Firstly they wanted to install a hook in the ceiling to use the TRX training system. This required a reinforced joist in a specific location, and also for the room to be 3m tall, so we helped them to apply for planning permission. The second requirement was to maximise the use of space in their garden by following the line of the back fence – this meant that the workshow to the rear was not rectangular and opened out once you entered. The client also asked for a custom built cedar clad door to match the exterior.
The final result was a room 3.5m wide, with the front elevation 6.1m long and the rear elevation 7.1m. A sliding UPVC door and fixed panel window brings plenty of light and the air-conditioning keeps the gym cool. The gym is fully plastered and painted, with the storeroom being lined with plywood and a custom workbench added. Flooring in the gym was half rubber matting and half hard-wearing vinyl.
Once again a challenging build, with a delighted customer when completed.
